Diagnostic Assessment: We like to start with a thorough battery of tests to discover both strengths and weaknesses by specific skill area as well as by grade level. We also do vision and auditory screenings for indications of physical problems. Writing (K-12+): Focuses on the "writing process," and is designed to help the students think, organize, and express themselves clearly on paper. Students study rules of grammar and mechanics, sentence expansion techniques, and different styles of writing. Basic Reading (K-12+): For students who are falling behind or having difficulty with reading. We focus on the basic skills of phonics, vocabulary and comprehension. Our program also works successfully for students with learning disabilities like dyslexia or with attention deficit disorder. Advanced Reading (7-12+): An accelerated learning program to develop comprehension and vocabulary skills. Students learn critical reading and thinking skills, how to analyze and synthesize data, and how to effectively apply these skills. Basic Math (K-12+): Covers mastery of basic skills like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percents, ratios and proportions. Includes word problem skills and hands-on manipulative matierials. Algebra/Geometry (7-12): All major algebra skills covered from variables and equations to quadratic functions for both regular and honors students. We coordinate with the school`s textbooks while incorporating our own prescriptive curriculum. Spanish (Ages 5-12): Offered in partnership with Berlitz Languages, Inc. These small group programs provide engaging, activity-based, age-appropriate instruction. Listening and speaking skills are emphasized along with reading and writing where appropriate. English As A Second Language (K-12+): In addition to basic reading skills, we include broader language arts skills such as conversation, listening, and writing. We have worked successfully with students and parents with many different primary languages, including Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Tagalog.
