The Job Market
The Job Market has 5 central locations where job seekers and employers can access the support and services of over 30 collaborative partners, whose three main focal points are workforce preparation, economic development and School-to-Career. The Job Market began as part of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), a federal law that took effect in July, 2000, and which calls for counties receiving WIA funds to establish "One-Stop" agencies in their communities. The Job Market, Humboldt County's "One-Stop," has been open since early 1999. Staff are drawn from some of the one-stop partners, including among others North Coast Veterans Resource Center; Calworks; Employment Training Division; Employment Development Department; Eureka Adult School; Experience Works; Job Corps; California Conservation Corp. The Job Market locations are open to the general public and are a very popular place to look for work. Hundreds of job seekers visit our locations daily, and represent a very diverse group of customers. We have received outstanding rating on customer surveys, indicating that the public is pleased with The Job Market's service. Employers may take advantage of the meeting rooms, labor market information, small business development information, employee training programs, hiring incentives, and free the job seekers resumes on our CalJobs, all free services available through The Job Market.
