History of GEA
Founded in 1956 by a local resident and entrepreneur, Beverly Skugrud, Glendora Employment Agency was historically the city's first and only employment agency. In 1965, Beverly hired Theresa Powell as an employment counselor for the agency. Mrs. Powell offered a charismatic attitude and a genuine care for applicants and clients that resulted in long term affiliations. Beverly Skugrud offered Theresa Powell the opportunity to purchase the business in 1978. Mrs. Powell formed a partnership with her daughter, Barbara Latasa, and together, they continued the agency's success. Barbara, who came from the aerospace and mortgage industries, was ready for the challenge. Although she needed to learn a great deal, her mother was her source of knowledge. Together, they attended seminars, specialized in education and received certificates in the staffing industries. Theresa Powell passed away from cancer in 1980 and Barbara with a heavy heart continued with the business. Thanks to her mother's guidance and knowledge, Barbara became the sole owner of the agency, maintaining the integrity and honesty provided to their employees and clients from years prior. In 1996, Barbara followed in her mother's footsteps and extended a management position to her daughter, Theresa Latasa Thomas. At a very early age, Theresa would spend many afternoons in the office helping with filing and other office duties. Theresa accepted the offer and assumed an active and visible role in business development and as a Senior Recruiter for the company.
