Once Upon A Time
Maureen Palacios, the owner, loves her life as a bookseller, even though it ironically doesn’t afford her much time to read. Managing the business is more than a full-time job, but the best part of the job is getting children excited about reading and seeing them come back in to ask for the next book in a series. In her spare time, she likes to play with her lab, Lucky, bake new creations with her two daughters, and go to movies with her patient husband Jorge. Maureen, being a musician herself, does not sell very many music CDs because of her dislike for poor quality, “cutsy” music that goes stale after a couple of plays and tunes playing “down” to children. However, come check out the two CDs that we have been listening to and loving for the past few weeks.We offer books in categories: Children's Picture Books, Rediscover these Gems, Bilingual Books, Fantasy, Ages 8-12, Young Adult, Adult (Big Books, Audio Books and CD, Adult non-fiction, Fiction).
Readers' Aids. We have some of the most interesting reading glasses you have ever seen, plus some very user-friendly book lights! And to hold your place, we have elegant cameo and ribbon bookmarks, and book darts to mark a notable idea or phrase.
Book of the Month Club. Give someone the gift of reading! Tell us about that person – a new grandchild, a Dad who loves to read, a special customer, the hard-to-shop for, the homebound, someone who has moved away and is nostalgic for Once Upon A Time, or maybe this one is for you. Instead of the Fruit of the Month, we’ll send them a book of the month! Or, if you prefer, we have a quarterly schedule or bi-monthly arrangement. We will personally select the book, wrap it and send it to your recipient with a gift card. We’ll work out whatever fits your budget!
Our Book Clubs:
- Story Time (Tuesdays: 10:30 am). Do you love a great story? Then come check out our story time! We’ll treat you and yours to a story or two. So come discover some new picks or some old favorites.
- Adult Book Discussion Group (2nd Tuesday of the month at 7:30 pm).
- Adult Mystery Book Club (4th Wednesday of the month in the morning at 8:30 am). We usually have tea and homemade scones, so please join us for a good discussion.
- Evening with Writer as he discusses his latest book. Wine and cheese reception following presentation.
Teachers, Librarians, Educators. We can special order most any book, in any quantity, and have it received in a couple of days.
We welcome oldtime customers, their children, and grandchildren, and of course, all newcomers to our warm, comfortable and nurturing bookshop.
